Scanners
What is a flatbed scanner?
A flatbed scanner is a device used to digitize photographs, drawings, printed materials, textures, and other flat or relatively flat objects.
The original is placed directly on a glass surface. A scanning sensor moves beneath the glass and records the image using controlled lighting. Because the material remains stationary and flat, the scanner can capture fine detail at a consistent scale without the perspective distortion that can occur when photographing an object with a camera or phone.
The following flatbed scanners are available for Media Art students to book.
Canon CanoScan LiDE220

The Canon CanoScan LiDE220 is a compact flatbed scanner with a maximum optical resolution of 4800 × 4800 dpi. It can scan materials up to approximately 8.5 × 11.7 inches.
Its adjustable lid can accommodate some thicker materials, such as notebooks and books. The scanner connects to and receives power from the computer through USB.
Epson Perfection V39 II

The Epson Perfection V39 II is a compact flatbed scanner with a maximum optical resolution of 4800 dpi. It is designed for scanning photographs, artwork, illustrations, books, documents, and other flat materials.
The scanner uses Epson ScanSmart software and can also combine multiple scans to create a larger image when the original is bigger than the scanner bed. Its removable, high-rise lid can accommodate thicker materials such as books and photo albums.
Cameras
What is a DSLR camera?
A DSLR, or Digital Single-Lens Reflex camera, uses one interchangeable lens for viewing and recording the image.
Inside a DSLR, a mirror reflects light from the lens into the optical viewfinder. When recording begins, the mirror moves out of the way, allowing light to reach the digital sensor.
The following DSLR cameras are available for Media Art students to book. All three models provide similar manual controls and are suitable for photography and time-based media projects.
Canon EOS Rebel T4i / EOS 650D

A reliable entry-level DSLR with full manual controls. It is suitable for learning exposure, focus, composition, photography, and video recording.
Canon EOS Rebel T5i / EOS 700D

An updated version of the T4i with improved autofocus and handling. It is suitable for handheld recording, controlled shooting, and tripod-based filming.
